3 way fridge, self correcting?

Just reporting something that I didn't know.
At the start of a trip yesterday I forgot to open the propane line and attempted to set the fridge on "gas setting". It started flashing after 15 seconds or so, but I didn't notice till later. My wife said the fridge was working fine for hours BEFORE I opened the line.
It must have kicked over to 12v ON IT'S OWN while we were driving.
Yes, I'm guilty of running on propane while driving on the first day to get the fridge chilled. The rig is parked on a hillside so I dare not try to chill it in advance of a trip.

RE: Turbo resonator failure report

Glassgirl,
I just bought a spare for $50 in advance of a three week trip starting this weekend. So, I don't think you are worrying, just being careful.
My thought is it's better to have one available for a mechanic to install even though it won't be covered by the mfg. than it is to limp around for a day and possibly having to wait for a resonator to be delivered. I'm on a schedule for both business and pleasure and have camping reservations in place.

RE: Can you really park a 22'9" Sprinter van in a regular space?

In a "regular space"? YES if you back in and have room for the rear
end. We do it all the time at motels and restaurants.
In a "normal sized parallel space"? NO WAY.

"Tinny" is being very kind, but I haven't done anything about it either.
I'll be all ears on this thread.

RE: Interest in a Rally

My current excuse is that I'm still working full time. I've got a lot of time off, knock on wood, to make a couple of lengthy trips in the B each year but they haven't meshed with Rallys.

RE: Dodge Sprinter invasion!!

I have one and even though it's a B I'd like to weigh in here:
The economics show they don't break even until you put 60,000 miles on them when compaired to the gas C's. It's just the Mercedes engine that they like to have that makes them feel like the are driving a high class vehicle.
Honestly, I don't know anybody who bought one based on "economic comparison" like you are suggesting or based on the perceived status of the Mercedes engine.
The cost per square foot is crazy high and we have very few repair centers to choose from compared to Ford or Chevy front ends.
I contend that ownership of Dodge Sprinter C's or B's is a lifestyle decision based on a handful of factors:
1. Fit in small, remote campsites and beautiful environments.
2. Easily navigate around motels, restaurants etc.
3. Store in residential areas that might otherwise prohibit such storage.
4. Enjoy the "bus like" views.
5. Want a mimimalist RV experience that is closer to camping.
Jay
PS Definitely not for full timers IMHO

"I think Jay means the water pump."
YES. Sorry 'bout that, I can't even recall why that word (demand) stuck in my mind.

"Also, keep in mind if you are boondocking in a tent area you also would be inconsiderate if you ran your generator or there may be restrictions in doing so anyway."
We even turn off the demand pump at night to keep things quiet.

RE: Downsizing

A final comment--the Adventurous is a beautiful machine. That open sweep of windows is wonderful for sightseeing and makes it seem much bigger than a lot of other B's.
With windows in five of the six panels, the open feel for us, too, was a dominating factor in our decision to buy an RT RS. Also, we bought very early in the RT RS "life cycle" and the power sofa didn't exist yet. Even if it did we felt the complexity of the sofa frame would chop up the "underbunk" storage area and cut down on usable space. To each his own.

RE: B sales

Hi James,
I'll be passing near you on US 60E coming from Springfield toward Poplar Bluff in mid Sept. This is the backside of an annual trip we take from NC to Utah and back.
We return East thru CO on US 160 over Wolf Creek Pass, then thru KS on US 400 to Wichita and then on to Springfield MO.
We've adopted Greensburg, KS (the tornado victim) and hope to see great progress there this summer in their rebuilding project. This will be our 4th visit to Greensburg.
Be looking for you on the road.

We always check out the available sites! We prefer to keep a low profile and try to avoid "Woodstock" or, as we say, "Billy Bob and the whole fam damily."

RE: Purchased a 2006 Roadtrek RS Adventurous/Thank You

Nicely done Brian!
I noticed the bidding on Ebay... so you are the grand prize winner!
If I'm not terribly mistaken, and please correct me if I am, you just bought the exact same rig that we have... fixed beds, swivel front and back seats, "first edition" style graphics, beige interior.
I am sending you a PM too.

RE: Hobbies and other interests

Just got back from a long weekend and saw this thread...
For me, in order of money spent:
Golf (by far), bass fishing (bank fishing most of the time), biking, reading (I say it's a requirement).
Still fully employed and that's priority #1 for some years to come.

RE: On a B, take the bikes or not?

We've traveled with both bikes, one bike (mine)and no bikes. Been happy with all choices. If you are hikers I suspect you'll be just as happy leaving the bikes at home and getting your exercise by walking.
We leave about 8/15 for a 3-4 weeker to Colo and Utah and we'll take my bike and share it.
My favorite bike activity is to pull off on top of a mountain, turn the wheel over to the boss, coast down the mountain and have the B follow me a few minutes later. Not much exercise but a great rush. Try it at Cadillac Mt. in Acadia sometime!
